Tension gripped a locality after miscreants allegedly ransacked a shop when its owners refused to pay a Rs 5,000 subscription demanded by a local club for Durga Puja celebrations.

According to the shop owner, members of the Puran Bari Club had been collecting Puja subscriptions from local traders. When they approached his shop, he initially offered Rs 501, which the collectors rejected. Even after raising the amount to Rs 1,000, the club members insisted on Rs 5,000, warning that no lesser amount would be accepted.

On the night of Vijaya Dashami, the owners closed their shop to visit pandals. The following morning, they were shocked to find the shop vandalised, with shutters damaged and GI sheets torn apart.

A video shared by the victim shows several club members threatening the owners and demanding the full amount. The victims claimed to have informed the local club authorities, but no action was taken to address their complaint.
