In an unprecedented incident of politically motivated attacks as many as five CPI (M) offices were vandalised and ransacked allegedly by BJP supporters in different areas under Surma (SC) assembly constituency of Kamalpur subdivision yesterday. Sources from Kamalpur said that the CPI (M) local committee offices that came under attack were located in Maracherra, Santir Bazar, Salema, Jayanti Bazar and Kachucherra. The party’s local committee office in Kachucherra had been demolished by a bulldozer shortly after BJP had come to power in 2018 and the party’s local workers and supporters had kept the place of the demolished office decorated by party flags and festoons to commemorate it but this was also vandalised last night.

In order to protest this naked political attack the CPI (M) local supporters and workers had taken out rallies condemning the unprovoked attack and ‘barbarism’ of the BJP leaders and workers. They also blockaded the Kamalpur-Ambassa road for a while and then held protest marches in other places where party offices had been attacked and vandalised. As part of the protest programme the party workers and supporters led by former MLA Anjan Das, district committee members Badarbom Halam, Nibaran Malakar, Tapas Singh and subdivisional committee members Subir Deb, Ramani Mohan Das, Suleiman Ali and Birlal Debbarma laid a siege around the Salema police station demanding immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the arsoning of CPI (M) offices.

The gathering in front of the Salema police station was addressed by the former MLA Anjan Das who condemned the ‘barbaric’ attacks of the BJP on CPI (M) offices. “The BJP had come to power by duping people with sky-high promises but has not been able to keep a single one of them ; now in order to divert the attention of people from their abject failure in running the state the BJP is setting its miscreants and hooligans upon the CPI (M) offices and leaders but the people of the state will not put up with this for long “ said Anjan. He also accused the ruling BJP of destroying the very foundation of democracy and unleashing anarchy all around.
