Fish Counters Open Across Tripura including Maharajganj Bazar to Sell Fish at Government Rates on Vijaya Dashami

On the auspicious occasion of Vijaya Dashami, the Tripura Apex Fisheries Cooperative Society (TAFCS) Ltd., under the Department of Fisheries and Cooperation, Government of Tripura, has announced a Special Fish Sale at government-approved rates across the state.

Beginning from 6:30 am on October 2, 2025, special counters will be operational at 23 key markets, including Maharajganj Bazaar in Agartala, Dharmanagar, Kailashahar, Kanchanpur, Teliamura, Udaipur, Amarpur, and several other locations.

Director of Fisheries, Santosh Das, IAS, informed that a total of 7,100 kilograms of fish will be made available through these counters. The initiative will offer consumers a wide range of fresh fish, including the popular Dumboor Katla. Notably, about 1,000 kilograms of Hilsa will be sold exclusively at Maharajganj Bazaar in Agartala, expected to draw heavy demand.

According to the official notification issued by TAFCS, the rate chart for Vijaya Dashami fish sale is as follows:

Catla (Dumboor Lake)

* 2 kg to 2.9 kg – Rs. 300 per kg

* 3 kg & above – Rs. 400 per kg

Rohu (Dumboor Lake)

* 2 kg to 2.9 kg – Rs. 250 per kg

* 3 kg & above – Rs. 350 per kg

Hilsa (Ilish)

* 800 gm to 999 gm – Rs. 1100 per kg

* 1 kg to 1.199 kg – Rs. 1200 per kg

* 1.2 kg to 1.299 kg – Rs. 1350 per kg

* 1.3 kg to 1.399 kg – Rs. 1450 per kg

* 1.4 kg to 1.5 kg – Rs. 1550 per kg

The Tripura Fisheries Development Corporation will operate the counters, while fish will be sourced directly from 23 government fish farms to maintain quality and fair supply.

Officials highlighted that the initiative not only ensures that consumers get fish at fair and affordable prices during the festive season but also benefits local fish farmers by expanding their market reach.



The Maharajganj Bazaar counter in Agartala is expected to witness the highest turnout, with Hilsa and Dumboor Katla being the star attractions of this year’s Vijaya Dashami fish sale.
