In a landmark step, BJP MLA Mailafru Mog of 39-Manu (ST) Constituency has set a historic precedent by distributing 15 tablet computers to members of the Sabroom Press Club under the Bidhayak Elaka Unnayan Prakalpa (BEUP) fund. The event, held at the Sabroom Press Club, is the first of its kind in Tripura where MLA development funds have been utilized to support working journalists with digital devices.
Addressing the programme, MLA Mailafru Mog highlighted the importance of technology in modern journalism. He said the initiative aims to empower local journalists with advanced tools to perform their duties more effectively, especially in the era of rapid digital reporting. “Technology is no longer a luxury but a necessity for news gathering, editing, and dissemination. I hope these tablets will enhance the efficiency of our local media community,” Mog stated.
Tablet computers, known for their versatility and portability, are increasingly used across the world for browsing, streaming, e-books, gaming, productivity, and communication. For journalists, they offer a balance between the compactness of smartphones and the functionality of laptops, making them highly effective for field reporting, content creation, and digital communication.
The initiative, announced just ahead of Durga Puja festivities, was met with warm appreciation by journalists of Sabroom. Members of the Sabroom divisional committee of the Tripura Working Journalists’ Association extended heartfelt thanks to MLA Mog for recognizing their needs and providing timely support.
Local journalists described the gesture as an unprecedented move, noting that for the first time in Tripura’s history, an MLA has distributed tablets and mobile devices to journalists from the BEUP fund. They expressed optimism that such initiatives will strengthen grassroots journalism and ensure better access to digital tools in the region.
The programme concluded on a positive note, with the journalists acknowledging this step as both symbolic and practical, a recognition of their role in society and a boost to their professional capabilities.
