In a major anti-narcotics operation amid Durga Puja festivities, the Customs and Assam Rifles recovered a massive consignment of 60 kilograms of Yaba tablets from a lorry on the Mohanpur road yesterday morning. The consignment was being transported in a ginger-laden vehicle, officials confirmed. Driver was detained.

The operation was carried out jointly by personnel of the Assam Rifles and Customs officials based on specific intelligence inputs. According to sources, the seized contraband has not yet been formally handed over to the Tripura Police.

Preliminary assessments suggest that the international market value of the seized narcotics could be as high as Rs. 60 crore. Notably, sources alleged that the Tripura Police were kept in the dark regarding the high-profile operation.

This development once again highlights Tripura’s growing challenges as a key transit route for cross-border drug trafficking.
