On the eve of Durga Puja festivities, an inspiring initiative of free book distribution highlighted the continuing importance of books in Tripura’s villages and hill areas. Despite the widespread use of Google search and ChatGPT, books remain the most authentic and dependable source of knowledge, especially for unemployed youth preparing for competitive examinations.
Jayanta Debnath, Editor of tripurainfo.com, who authored many books distributed some of his recently published books, said, “Books are not just tools for increasing knowledge. I firmly believe that even in the age of Google and ChatGPT, there is no alternative to books for authentic information. That is why, wherever I travel, I always carry some of my published books from tripurainfo.com, hoping to bring light into the future of underprivileged unemployed youth in Tripura’s villages and hills.”
During his recent journey through Udaipur, Amarpur, Gandacherra, Chabimura, Dumboor, and Narkel Kunja, the first halt at Amarpur saw all the books being distributed. A book-loving staff member of the RD Block expressed how crucial these books are—job preparation books for unemployed youth, and guides on government schemes and the three new criminal laws for government staff. Inspired by his sincerity, Jayanta Debnath entrusted him with the entire stock, confident that the books would reach the right hands.
Although this meant books could not be distributed at other stops, the experience carried a significant message. As Debnath reflected, “This journey taught me something new—that rural people too realize very well that no matter how advanced modern technology becomes, the first and most reliable source of trustworthy information for common people, government staff, and students is still books.”
