A violent incident rocked the Ashabari area under Kalamchowra police station on Monday, leaving two young men, Jabed Hossain and Jamarul Hossain, critically injured following a brutal stabbing allegedly carried out by a notorious smuggler, Sahin Hossain.

According to local sources, the attack stemmed from a dispute over a social matter. Sahin, who has long been accused of running illegal cross-border activities, reportedly assaulted the victims with a sharp weapon in a drug-intoxicated state.

Residents allege that Sahin has been actively involved in cutting border fencing and smuggling cattle, garments, and even humans across the international border. His name is also linked with the trafficking of yaba tablets and other narcotics. Villagers further claimed that he frequently consumes yaba, becomes violent, and randomly assaults people with weapons, creating a climate of fear and unrest in the locality.

Following the incident, locals rushed the injured youths to Boxanagar Social Health Centre. However, as their condition deteriorated, doctors referred them to GB Hospital in Agartala, where they are currently undergoing treatment.

The attack has sparked widespread tension in the area. Agitated residents accused Sahin of being the ringleader of smuggling and narcotics networks along the border and demanded his immediate arrest and exemplary punishment.

Police sources confirmed that the matter is being taken seriously. A written complaint is expected to be filed by the victims’ families, while the accused remains absconding.

Local observers warned that the growing activities of such criminal elements in border areas pose a serious threat to society and law and order. They cautioned that without swift administrative intervention, the situation could spiral further out of control.
