In a bizarre incident a gang of miscreants led by notorious smugglers of the area seriously injured five BSF jawans (49th battalion) in Harihardola area under Madhupur police station and the BSF authority filed a FIR with Madhupur police station with specific details of the attackers. The incident happened on Thursday and already the local ruling party leaders including the Gram Pradhan have taken an initiative to save the culprits currently absconding from the area.

Giving details sources from Madhupur said that following directives from the union home ministry the BSF have tightened vigil along the border on the occasion of ‘Durga Puja’, putting restrictions on movement along the border areas. On Thursday night around 11-00 PM the in charge of Haridhardola BSF BOP came across a group of youths in the Harihardola market and asked them what they were up to and why they were loitering in the market in defiance of restrictions. The unruly youths , identified as Debabrata Acharjee, Suman Debnath, Titon Giri and two unidentified others-all notorious smugglers- picked up a quarrel with the in-charge and beat him up. The in-charge returned to the camp and came back with other jawans to the market but the smugglers had called in other miscreants to the market and engaged in a clash with the BSF and jawans and beat them up, taking advantage of their numerical strength. At least five jawans sustained injuries and the BSF authority filed a complaint with the Madhupur police station against the culprits, giving specific names on Friday morning.

But , significantly the local leaders of ruling BJP including the Gram Pradhan of Harihardola have become hyper-active to save the miscreants who are absconding from arrest. The ‘Pradhan’ and his associates have contacted the BSF camp in Harihardola’s bordering area to settle the matter amicably but the BSF authority have refused to relent on the issue and are insisting on arrest of the culprits who had dared to attack them only for doing their duty. An uneasy lull has been reported from the troubled Harihardola area.
