Fresh Allegation of Child Sale in Tripura, Infant Reportedly Sold for Rs 10,000 in Shilachhari

A shocking incident has once again raised questions over in the state. Allegations have surfaced that a three-month old baby girl was sold for Rs 10,000 in the Shilachhari block’s Shuknachhari area.
According to reports, the infant’s mother handed over her child in exchange for Rs 10,000 to Ranjit Chakma, a resident of Joleya Madhum Para. It is alleged that in addition to the agreed amount, Ranjit Chakma also offered Rs 1,500 extra as a token gesture to finalize the deal.
The baby’s father, Kanchan Chakma, revealed that the infant was unable to receive her mother’s milk, forcing them to depend on purchased milk powder. Struggling under acute poverty, the family found it increasingly difficult to bear the expense. Out of desperation, they decided to sell their daughter.
However, after the transaction, the parents reportedly broke down in regret and tried to bring the baby back. But when they approached the buyer, he refused to return the infant. Overwhelmed with grief and desperation, the parents have now turned to the media seeking help to reunite with their daughter.
The case has sparked outrage in the local community, with many pointing out the severe poverty that compels families to make such extreme decisions. With the matter now in the public domain, all eyes are on the administration to see what steps will be taken.
Media sources have assured the grieving father that they will help him establish contact with the authorities to take necessary action.
