As part of his annual tradition ahead of Durga Puja, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday evening hosted a cordial dinner and interaction with the state’s senior editors and journalists at the prestigious Polo Towers in Agartala. The event was marked by warm festive greetings, constructive dialogue, and candid discussions on pressing developmental and governance issues.

During the evening, Dr. Saha exchanged views on Tripura’s ongoing and upcoming development initiatives, while journalists highlighted concerns and suggestions regarding healthcare services, road repairs, traffic congestion in the capital, drinking water scarcity, tribal issues, the menace of drug abuse, and awareness campaigns on government schemes. Constructive criticism of government shortcomings was accompanied by praise for the administration’s positive steps.

Almost all the editors and senior journalists participated in the gathering. Tripurainfo.com editor Jayanta Debnath presented two books published by Tripura Info to the Chief Minister. One of them, compiled by Shri Debnath and his Wife Advocate Madhumita Bhattacharjee, focuses on guidelines for various government schemes, rights, and laws concerning women and children. The other book is on Tripura’s General Knowledge and Current Affairs. Both these newly launched books were handed over by Debnath to Dr. Saha along with Durga Puja greetings.

The Chief Minister was joined by senior bureaucrats including Dr P K Chakraborty, IAS ( retd) Abhishek Singh, IAS and Kiran Gitte, IAS along with Bimbisar Bhattacharjee, Director of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department. They listened patiently to the queries, criticism, and suggestions raised by editors and journalists, and assured timely initiatives for solutions.

Journalists posed sharp questions on key issues such as illegal infiltration, the implementation of the tripartite agreement with TIPRA Motha, and the slow progress of the CBI probes into the murders of journalists Shantanu Bhowmik and Sudip Datta Bhowmik in 2017. Responding to queries, Dr. Saha said he had spoken to Delhi multiple times on the matter and would continue to follow up. Poor health care facilities in GBP Hospital, Political violence, National Highways, and poor road conditions others parts of state and the urgency of drug eradication also dominated the discussions, with the Chief Minister and his top aides responding directly to each issue.

Significantly, Dr. Saha urged media houses for constructive criticism and cooperation in the state’s development journey. He assured that issues related to the media fraternity including the new advertisement policy, accreditation rules, and pension schemes would be resolved soon, with ICA Secretary Dr PK Chakraborty reiterating the same assurance.

The Chief Minister further emphasized the importance of maintaining the rule of law and called upon the press to play a vital role in building the vision of “Ek Tripura, Shreshtha Tripura.”

Notably, the interaction, held in the festive spirit of Durga Puja, thus became not just a dinner meeting but a meaningful platform for dialogue, accountability, and cooperation between the government and the media fraternity of Tripura.
