Project Parivesh Launched in Tripura: Replication of Biovillage 2.0 to Promote Sustainable Rural Development

A new chapter in rural sustainability began today in Tripura with the inauguration of Project Parivesh: Replication of Biovillage 2.0 at Behalabari Community Hall, Khowai District. The initiative, conceptualized and implemented by the Directorate of Biotechnology, Government of Tripura, aims to replicate the success of Biovillage 2.0 by promoting clean energy solutions, sustainable farming practices, and eco-friendly livelihood opportunities.
The project has been recognized as part of NITI Aayog’s Best Practices 2025, and is being implemented with the support of Ashray Foundation as the implementing partner under the CSR program of Canara HSBC Life Insurance. Technical leadership and village-level interventions are being coordinated by Shri Anjan Sengupta from the Directorate of Biotechnology.
The inauguration was graced by Shri Animesh Debbarma, Minister for Science, Technology & Environment, Tripura, as the Chief Guest. Senior government officials, representatives from Canara HSBC Life Insurance, Ashray Foundation, and direct project beneficiaries were also present at the event.
During the ceremony, 56 primary beneficiaries received distribution of project components. The initiative is expected to positively impact over 280 additional beneficiaries across the region.
A technical session was also organized, where experts shared insights on sustainable practices, climate resilience, and livelihood opportunities. The session aimed to enhance awareness among stakeholders for the effective implementation of the project.
Speaking at the event, Minister Shri Animesh Debbarma praised the collaborative efforts in addressing climate change through sustainable, community-driven interventions. He emphasized the role of such projects in strengthening rural livelihoods and promoting environmental resilience in Tripura.
Project Parivesh is designed to scale up the successful Biovillage 2.0 model, integrating clean energy, climate-smart agriculture, and eco-friendly livelihood opportunities. The initiative seeks to empower rural communities by blending innovation, climate action, and social responsibility, thereby driving inclusive and sustainable development in the state.
