Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the revered Mata Tripureswari temple in Udaipur today via air route brought the state capital and adjoining areas to an unusual standstill.

From noon onwards, traffic police and security agencies placed “No Entry” boards on major roads leading from Agartala Airport to Agartala city, Bishalgarh, and Bishramganj, Udaipur preventing not only general commuters but also examinees, school vehicles, and even ambulances carrying patients from moving. This disruption lasted until late afternoon, sparking widespread anger.

Many citizens alleged that in the name of ensuring a smooth passage for VVIP movement, the police and traffic department went overboard. While strict law-and-order measures during a Prime Minister’s visit are understandable and necessary, blocking patients, students on their way to examinations, and daily commuters was seen as excessive and inhumane.

Examinees faced severe difficulties as their vehicles were halted till their exams concluded around 3:30 pm. Once the exams ended, traffic restrictions tightened again, causing fresh harassment.

On social media, several voices raised concerns about whether the administration and police had the right to treat ordinary, law-abiding citizens in such a harsh manner. Many described the behavior as “inhuman” and beyond acceptable limits.

Adding to the controversy, reports emerged from Udaipur that a ruling party MLA Abhishek Debroy, along with supporters, allegedly entered the temple premises flouting security protocols. Citizens questioned whether police would have shown similar tolerance had it been an ordinary person violating rules during the Prime Minister’s high-security visit.

While the Prime Minister’s temple visit concluded successfully, the manner in which VVIP protocol was enforced left a bitter experience for many in the capital and surrounding areas including Bishalgarh, Bishramganj to Udaipur.
