The sacred land of Mata Tripurasundari turned into a sea of devotion and celebration as Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi visited the historic Shaktipith on his Tripura tour today in the afternoon. The entire state witnessed a wave of enthusiasm as people gathered in massive numbers to greet the Prime Minister on both sides of the stretch of road between the Palatana helipad and the ‘Matabari’ temple complex. The people raised slogans greeting the prime minister and showering flower petals on his vehicle.
Upon arrival at Agartala MBB Airport, PM Modi was received with due honours by Chief Secretary JK Sinha, Director General of Police Anurag Dhankar, District Magistrate Dr Vishal Kumar, Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak, and the Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Deepak Majumder. He was later welcomed at Palatana Helipad by Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha , Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu and the Rajya Sabha MP and BJP state president Rajeev Bhattacharjee.
At Udaipur, the Prime Minister offered prayers at the holy Mata Tripurasundari Temple ritually prompted by the head priest Chandan Chakraborty and his assistant, praying for the well-being of 140 crore Indians. He also inaugurated the newly added modern infrastructure and various facilities for devotees, marking a new chapter in the temple’s rich heritage. The new ‘Matabari’ temple complex has been built at a total cost of Rs 59 crores out of which the Centre gave Rs 52 crores under the newly introduced ‘Prasad’ scheme.
When the Prime Minister visited the temple premises, he was accompanied by the Chief Minister, the Governor, and Member of Parliament Rajib Bhattacharjee. Kiran Kumar Gitte, Secretary to the State Government, briefed the Prime Minister on the history and heritage of Mata Bari as well as the expansion of new infrastructure at the site.
However, the day was not without controversy. Discontent arose over strict security measures at the temple premises. In a dramatic incident, local MLA Abhishek Debroy reportedly broke through barricades with his supporters, defying police instructions, leading to chaotic scenes. This sparked sharp criticism, with many alleging a violation of law by an elected representative.
Despite the uproar, the Prime Minister’s visit remained the highlight of the day, with the people's devotion and faith for him on full display. The temple town of Udaipur wore a festive look, echoing chants and cheers as Modi inaugurated the development works of the Mata Tripurasundari Temple Complex.
The historic Shaktipith stood resplendent in its new avatar, symbolizing both tradition and modernity, as Tripura celebrated the honour of hosting the nation’s leader at one of its holiest sites. History turned a full circle today as the ancient temple , originally set up by Tripura king Dhanya Manikya (1490-1520) in the year 1501, got a massive face-lift today with the inauguration of the completed redevelopment project. A team of traditionally attired tribal girs added luster and an artistic touch to the occasion by staging a colourful dance programme.
