Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma has strongly condemned the violence that broke out during BJP’s Seva Parv event at Hejamara, stressing that political hatred and violence will never bring development to Tripura.

In a Facebook post following the incident, Pradyot wrote:

"If violence and hate ever solved the problem of any community then insurgency and riots would have solved the lives of our people long time ago. Those who indulge in violence are gundas and criminals and remember gundas and criminals have no party, they use political flags to protect their interest. Till the time we follow the culture of Kerala and West Bengal of political violence, no development will ever take place in our state."

His remarks sparked widespread reactions across social media. Many of his Facebook followers lauded his stance, with one adding:

"Well said sir, but another line also can be added, ‘Even Political Flags are used for personal interest or benefits as well.’"

Several users echoed frustration that Tripura continues to be plagued by a “threat culture,” where opportunistic elements thrive in times of unrest. One user commented that anti-social groups “become alive when riots occur,” stressing that they act without education, work, or purpose, only fueling chaos for their own gains. Some even drew parallels to the ongoing Manipur conflict, where, instead of tackling anti-social elements, communities turned against each other, prolonging unrest for nearly two years.

Alongside reactions to Pradyot’s post, strong criticism has also surfaced against the functioning of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) under Tipra Motha’s leadership.

In public opinion circulating both online and offline, residents alleged that for the past seven years, “one-man authoritarian rule” has dominated ADC village panchayats under Tipra Motha, while genuine development has remained absent.

Many tribal families continue to struggle for daily meals, depending on collecting and selling forest products like bamboo shoots and firewood. Critics further alleged that while common Tiprasa people face unemployment and poverty, leaders of the tribal party have reportedly doubled their assets, and internal disputes among them often result in clashes.

These concerns, expressed in both English and Bengali, underline growing disillusionment within sections of the tribal community, questioning whether promises of development under Tipra Motha leadership have been fulfilled.

Pradyot’s call for an end to violence resonates at a time when political rivalries in Tripura remain deeply divided, with critics warning that without addressing poverty, unemployment, and the misuse of political platforms for personal gain, such cycles of unrest may continue to hinder the state’s growth.
