BSF, Customs seize gold worth Rs 1.59 crore in Sepahijala

In a major success against cross-border smuggling, the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Customs Preventive Force, Sonamura, jointly seized gold worth around Rs 1.59 crore in Sepahijala district late on Saturday night.

Based on specific intelligence, BSF troops of Border Outpost N C Nagar under SHQ Gokulnagar, along with Customs officials, conducted a joint operation around 11.15 pm on September 20. During the raid, the team recovered 12 gold biscuits weighing approximately 1.39 kg from the house of a villager in N C Nagar under Sonamura police station.

The seized gold has been valued at about Rs 1.59 crore in the market. Officials said the operation was the result of close coordination and information-sharing between BSF and Customs, underlining the strong synergy between the two agencies in combating trans-border smuggling.

Authorities added that further investigation into the source and intended destination of the smuggled gold is underway.
