The murder of housewife Anjali Sarkar of Mirza Motor Stand, under Udaipur Sub-Division, has triggered a political storm in Tripura, with opposition parties intensifying their demand for immediate arrest of the accused.

According to reports, on the night of September 18, Anjali Sarkar, wife of Pankaj Sarkar, was allegedly set ablaze and killed by a group of miscreants led by Manna Majumdar, nephew of a ruling BJP MLA, along with his associates. The incident has sparked outrage across the state.

Today, senior Congress leaders Birajit Sinha and Sudip Roy Barman jointly visited the victim’s residence in Mirza to console the bereaved family. They expressed solidarity with Anjali’s husband and family members, assuring them that the opposition will continue to raise their voices until justice is served.

Meanwhile, the CPI(M) staged a strong protest in front of the Police Headquarters in Agartala, demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits. Raising slogans against the BJP-led government, CPI(M) leaders alleged that police inaction was shielding the accused due to their political connections.

A delegation of Left leaders, led by Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Tripura Legislative Assembly Comrade Shyamal Chakraborty, also visited the victim’s house today. The delegation included MLAs Shailendra Chandra Nath, Ramu Das, and Sudip Sarkar. They met the family and demanded exemplary punishment for the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

The gruesome incident and subsequent political reactions have placed the state government under mounting pressure, with demands growing louder for impartial investigation and strict action against the guilty, irrespective of political affiliation.
