The Government of Tripura has announced the launch of a new flagship welfare initiative titled “Chief Minister’s Scheme for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities”, aimed at ensuring social security and financial support to individuals with severe disabilities. The scheme will be implemented by the Social Welfare & Social Education Department.
According to official guidelines, the scheme is designed to benefit persons with 60% or above Intellectual Disability, Mental Illness, Cerebral Palsy, or Multiple Disabilities. Eligible beneficiaries, referred to as divyanjans, will receive a monthly pension of Rs. 5,000, which will be credited directly into their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
Eligibility and Coverage :
To qualify for the scheme, beneficiaries must hold a valid Unique Disability Identity (UDID) Card issued by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India. Applicants must also be permanent residents of Tripura and be listed in the Ration Card Database of the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department. Importantly, there is no age bar for availing the benefits. In cases where beneficiaries cannot operate their accounts, the financial support will be credited to a joint account with their legally appointed guardian under the National Trust Act, 1999.
Applications can be submitted in prescribed format to the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) of the concerned area, the District Inspector of Social Education (DISE), or directly to the Director, Social Welfare & Social Education Department in Agartala. The department will serve as the competent authority for approval. Beneficiaries already receiving state or central social security pensions under existing schemes will be migrated to this new scheme after verifications.
