Mounting tension has been reported from bordering Magurauli area under Kailasahar subdivision following the serious bullet injury suffered by a Muslim youth Nurul Islam (28) , allegedly a smuggler in the area. Sources in the BSF said that Nurul Islam has been involved in smuggling activities over the past many years and was a listed smuggler as per records of the BSF. This morning he had been sighted near the border , supposedly waiting to throw a consignment of smuggled goods over he fencing. He was challenged by the BSF jawans on duty and ordered to stop but he made obscene gestures at the BSF jawans and kept running. The BSF jawans fired at him and one of the bullets pierced his throat.

Sources said that injured Nurul Islam was taken to Kailasahar hospital where he was treated first by in charge doctor Mayuri Paul and then by ENT specialist Dr Arup Chakraborty who referred him to GBP hospital for better treatment because of the serious nature of his injury. However, the ambulance of the hospital was not readily available and when it came after about forty five minutes Nurul Islam was sent by it towards Agartala’s GBP hospital.

However , injured Nurul Islam’s family members gave a different version and said that a group of BSF jawans posted in the Magurauli border outpost had stormed their house in search of Nurul Islam and fired on him at point blank range after sighting him in. They complained of BSF’s high-handedness and cold-blooded firing.
