A shocking incident from Govind Ballabh Pant (GB) Hospital, Agartala, has sparked outrage after a video surfaced online showing an elderly woman, reportedly from an impoverished background, being dragged out of a ward by staff members and then left lying helplessly on the hospital floor.

The video, originally circulated by Bishalgarh TV on September 16, 2025, shows the woman crying for help while no assistance comes forward. The disturbing visuals have drawn widespread condemnation as a violation of basic human dignity and rights.

In response, three citizens of Tripura, Pratham Saha, Tunir Chakraborty, and Diptanu Datta submitted a formal complaint to the Tripura Human Rights Commission (THRC) on Friday. In their petition, they described the treatment as totally unacceptable in a civilized society and a direct violation of Article 21 of the Indian Constitution, which guarantees the right to life with dignity.

“The GB Hospital has always been regarded as one of the best medical institutions in Tripura. Such an incident within its premises highlights serious mismanagement and ill treatment towards vulnerable citizens,” the complainants stated.

The petitioners have urged the THRC to immediately investigate the matter, take strict action against those responsible, and ensure accountability within the hospital administration. They also forwarded the video evidence to the commission via email for further examination.

The incident has sparked wider debate about the treatment of underprivileged patients in government institutions and the urgent need for reforms in hospital management and accountability systems.

As of now, no official statement has been released by the GB Hospital authorities regarding the allegations.
