Santirbazar witnessed political unrest even in the midst of the festive atmosphere. Three CPI(M) leaders, Balaram Riang, Manoj Riang, and Ashish Pal were attacked after attending an all-party meeting convened by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) at Santirbazar.

According to reports, the meeting was called at the SDM office to discuss matters related to the voter list. After participating in the meeting, the CPI(M) leaders were allegedly assaulted by miscreants on their way back. Timely intervention by the SDM saved them from further harm.

The injured leaders were initially taken to Santirbazar District Hospital, where an attempt was reportedly made to attack them again. Later, following the request of CPI(M) State Secretary Jitendra Choudhury and with the intervention of the South Tripura District Magistrate, two of the critically injured leaders were referred to GBP Hospital, Agartala, for advanced treatment late last night.

CPI(M) State Secretary Jitendra Choudhury has alleged that “anti-social elements of the BJP” were behind the attack. He claimed that the BJP, lacking popular support, is resorting to creating an atmosphere of fear across the state. Choudhury strongly condemned the Santirbazar incident and demanded immediate arrest of those involved in the attack.
