Rampant extortion in the name of ‘Durga Puja’, shops vandalised in Sekerkote market, complaint filed with police

In flagrant defiance of the appeals made by the chief minister Dr Manik Saha and DGP Anurag Dhankar, clubs and organizers of community ‘Durga Pujas’ continue their extortion drive in the name of collection of subscription. In a disgraceful incident a club near Sekerkote market under Amtoli police station the miscreant members of a club known as ‘New Club’ near Sekerkote higher secondary school last night vandalised at least four shops in the market .

Sources said that the miscreant club members vandalised the shop of a businessman last night after he had expressed his inability to pay a subscription of Rs 10 thousand for the ‘Puja’ this year. They also vandalised four three other shops for the same reason. The affected shop-keepers informed the members of the market committee who rushed in but found that the miscreants of the ‘New Club’ had fled . This morning the members of the market committee filed a complaint with the Amtoli police station and demanded that the ‘Puja’ of the ‘New Club’ be closed this year in the interest of peace.
