The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee on Monday rolled out the third phase of its nationwide campaign, ‘Vote Chor Gaddi Chhod’, with a mass signature drive against alleged electoral malpractices. State Congress president Asish Kumar Saha inaugurated the programme by signing the petition himself and urged party workers to carry the initiative to every village and town.
Saha said the party has set a target of collecting five crore signatures across India, which will be submitted to the President and the Election Commission. The campaign’s earlier phases included padayatras, rallies and public meetings, while the current stage focuses on grassroots mobilisation through signature collection.
Accusing the ruling BJP of manipulating voter rolls and tilting election outcomes, Saha alleged that “illegitimate voters” were added in several states to favour the party. He demanded reforms from the Election Commission, including electronically readable voter lists, public disclosure of changes in rolls, fixed deadlines for enrolment, and strict action against voter intimidation.
The signature campaign in Tripura will continue until October 15, with a brief pause during Durga Puja festivities.
