Normal vehicular movement in Tripura including Dharmanagar, Agartala and Udaipur is facing problems due to the internal disputes in various motorstands in Tripura almost every day. Today morning also there was a severe disruption for several hours, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded during peak office hours in Agartala Nagerjala busstand. The disruption, attributed to an escalating internal dispute within the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) leadership across Agartala, Udaipur, and Dharmanagar, has become a near-daily occurrence, causing immense hardship to commuters.
According to reports, the latest flashpoint arose in Udaipur when the husband of a Rashtrabadi leader, identified as Raju Majumdar, allegedly assaulted a bus driver and workers, obstructing passenger vehicles. Witnesses claim Majumdar, angered over disputes related to route permits, forcibly stopped several vehicles bound for South Tripura, compelling passengers to disembark midway.
The conflict reportedly stems from a recent dispute regarding the allocation of route permit numbers. One of Majumdar’s vehicles was initially denied a permit, though it was later approved. Dissatisfied with the delay, Majumdar allegedly resorted to intimidation tactics against rival vehicle owners and staff, further fueling the unrest.
Strong condemnation came from Ratan Debnath, president of the West Tripura Nagerjala unit of the Bus and Jeep Drivers’ Association. Addressing a press conference at Nagerjala bus stand, Debnath denounced the obstruction as an unjust and disruptive act that has repeatedly inflicted suffering on daily commuters and office-goers.
The situation has once again underscored the growing factionalism within the BMS leadership in Tripura. Reports suggest that similar disputes are frequently occurring in Dharmanagar as well, with allegations pointing towards money collection practices from bus and vehicle syndicates as a key driver of the ongoing clashes.
Passengers across Agartala, Udaipur, and Dharmanagar continue to bear the brunt of the power struggle, while the absence of firm administrative intervention has raised questions over law and order and the protection of public convenience.
