The school education department of the state government has by a notification introduced new and uniform dress code students of all government schools divided into three categories. As per the new order the students of 125 Vidyajyoti schools will have one set of uniform while student of 70 PM Shri schools will have another set of uniforms and all other school students will have a unform set of dresses. The new uniform code will be effective from the next academic year while for the remainder of the current academic year the current uniform will continue, the notification said.

Sources in the education department said that the decision to introduce new dress code for students has been taken to ensure equality among students as well as to ensure their institutional identity. However four schools of the state, the ‘Shishu Vihar’ academy, Sukhamay HS School, UK Academy of Agartala and Radhakishore Institution of Kailasahar have been kept out of the purview of the new notification in view of their high tradition and heritage. These school authorities will either stick to their current uniform for students or switch over to a new uniform of their choice.
