The installation of the illegitimate interim government in Bangladesh following the forced ouster of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her Awami League government last year on August 5, politics in Bangladesh has revolved round anti-Indian activities even though the main opposition the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has kept a discreet silence on issues pertaining to India. But the fundamentalist elements that installed the interim government and is propping it up has been quietly fanning the growth of anti-India sentiment among the populace through calculated propaganda.

As part of this the security forces in Bangladesh have been quietly engaged in offensive postures along the border and at least on three occasions Bangladeshi drones have intruded into Indian territory . On one occasion early this year a drone fell on Indian territory in Lankamura area west of Agartala.

In the latest such incident a helicopter of Bangladesh yesterday flew along the border in Sabroon at 10-30 AM without violating airspace but creating a furore among the local people. The helicopter circled the airspace in Bangladesh territory several times and then went back. Sources from Sabroom said that earlier a drone had intruded into Indian territory in Sabroom and over the past two months Bangladesh army and the skeleton of air force they possess have been active in areas opposite to Sabroom like Ramgarh. What has added to the fear and tension among people in bordering Sabroom area is the hyper-activity of Bangladesh army and airforce and the possibility of new anti-India terror hideouts being set up there under the care and vigil of Bangladesh security forces. Added to this is the release and escape from prison of thousands of dangerous criminals and convicts in the wake of take-over of power by the interim government in place of ousted Awami League government.

Sources said that reports like Bangladesh seeking help from Pakistan and Turkey to strengthen its military force has also rattled the ordinary people. A number of Pakistani and Turkese delegations have already visited Bangladesh and held discussion on co-operation with the Bangladeshi counterparts.
