A local activist of the Tripura Nath Yogi Forum, Rajadwip Debnath, was seriously injured in a late-night assault near his rented home in Dharmanagar just after midnight on 11 September 2025.
According to eyewitnesses, a group of men forced him out of his vehicle while shouting that he had joined the Nath Forum, then struck him repeatedly with weapons, inflicting wounds to his chest and head.
Police were summoned and Rajadwip was first taken to Dharmanagar police station and then referred to Dharmanagar Hospital, where he is receiving treatment for multiple sharp and blunt-force injuries. Hospital sources say he is in a serious but stable condition; further medical updates have not been released publicly.
The Forum says Rajadwip is the nephew of Forum activist Pronoy Debnath and described him as an active member. Tripura Nath Yogi Forum state president Harihar Debnath condemned the attack and accused elements of local politics of trying to intimidate the community after the organisation recently held its second state-level conference. Harihar demanded an immediate investigation and the arrest of those responsible, warning that the Forum will organise larger protests across Dharmanagar and the northern district if authorities do not act. The Forum has previously been active in local social and political issues in the state.
Forum spokespeople told reporters they believe the attack was politically motivated: they say some local actors are alarmed that the Nath Yogi community is becoming more organised and fear a loss of influence in areas where they have long-held sway. The Forum’s statement invoked the community’s identity and warned attackers they will face consequences if the perpetrators are not traced and punished.
Tripura Nath Yogi Forum demands swift arrests and has threatened wider agitation if action is not taken.
