The General Officers & Employees Welfare Society has urged the Government of Tripura to expedite the process of employee promotions in accordance with the judgment of the Supreme Court and directions issued by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Government of India.
In a representation submitted to the Chief Secretary, the Society expressed concern that certain vested groups were allegedly trying to misguide the state government on the issue of promotions, causing delays and harming the interests of general employees. The Society pointed out that earlier, a status quo order was in place regarding promotions, but the matter has since been resolved, with the Apex Court’s larger bench judgment dated 28 January 2022 now holding the field.
The Society made several key demands, including, Recasting the seniority list for promotions across all cadres of posts after 2006, Granting promotions based on the recast seniority list with retrospective effect from 2006. And Regularizing ad-hoc promotions into regular promotions on the basis of the revised seniority.
The representation emphasized that the DoPT has already issued an Office Memorandum in compliance with the Supreme Court’s order, and a copy of the memorandum has been forwarded for reference.
Appealing for immediate government action, the Society stated that the continuation of the ad-hoc promotion system is unjustified and urged the authorities to implement regular promotions strictly as per the Apex Court’s directions, ensuring reservation in promotions is duly maintained in future cases.
