The Supreme Court has recently upheld the validity of the much-debated recruitment process for 15,500 posts initiated by the erstwhile Left Front government in 2017, terming it transparent and constitutional. The ruling, delivered by a double bench of the apex court on August 28, has reignited demands for immediate appointments from Left-backed youth organizations in Tripura.

Addressing a joint press conference on Wednesday, leaders of DYFI and TYF described the cancellation of the recruitment by the BJP-led government as unjust and politically motivated. DYFI state secretary Nabarun Dey, president Palash Bhowmik, and TYF state secretary jointly demanded that the state government complete the recruitment process without further delay and issue appointment letters to eligible candidates.

The Left government had initiated the process to fill 15,500 vacancies across different departments, including nearly 12,000 posts in the education department, over 1,000 in the social education department, and 786 in the police. The recruitment was at an advanced stage when the succeeding BJP-led government scrapped it, citing the ‘New Recruitment Policy.’ Several petitions were then filed, and the matter reached the Supreme Court.

After years of legal proceedings, the apex court categorically ruled that there was no irregularity in the recruitment process, affirming its validity and compliance with constitutional provisions.

The Left youth leaders accused the then Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb’s government of deliberately canceling the process to deprive thousands of unemployed youth in the state. They urged the current government to respect the Supreme Court’s verdict and immediately reinstate the process to ensure justice for the candidates.
