District Magistrate and Collector of North Tripura, Chandni Chandra, IAS, has ordered a detailed inquiry into allegations of illegal occupation of government khas land in Sripur village under Dewanpasa Mouza (Ward No. 6, Sripur Panchayat). The action came after villagers approached the administration demanding intervention against forcible land encroachment.

As per the DM’s directive, the Deputy Collector & Magistrate (DCM) of Dharmanagar conducted a field inquiry into the alleged encroachment. During the preliminary probe, it was revealed that while Kathiababa Gurukulam Seva Trust legally holds about 25 acres of jote land in the area, attempts were made to unlawfully grab adjacent khas land since the past two days.

The District Magistrate confirmed that the ongoing construction work at the disputed site has been halted immediately.

According to allegations, Manna Roy, on behalf of the Trust, had engaged a bulldozer to alter the land’s condition. The khas land in question has traditionally been used by villagers as a passage to fetch water and for cattle grazing. Local Panchayat authorities had also earmarked the land for rehabilitation of some homeless local families and construction of a brick-laid public road to meet long-standing public demand.

Villagers claimed that when they resisted the encroachment, Roy and his associates allegedly issued threats. They further alleged that a makeshift tin and bamboo house was erected overnight, bearing a signboard in the name of Kathiababa Trust School, along with a boundary gate demarcating the area.

The complainants also alleged that Roy has been projecting himself as a RSS leader, claiming support from senior RSS leadership in Nagpur and Tripura, which has discouraged villagers from voicing opposition.

The District Magistrate assured that a detailed inquiry is underway, and strict action will be taken if illegal encroachment of government land is confirmed.
