A serious allegation of forcible and illegal occupation of government khas land has been raised by villagers of Sripur under Dewanpasa Mouza (Ward No. 6, Sripur Panchayat) in North Tripura district.

In a written complaint addressed to the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, North Tripura, the villagers alleged that Sri Manna Roy and others belonging to the Kathiababa Gurukulam Seva Trust have unlawfully attempted to grab a large portion of khas land in Sripur village sinceday before yesterday.

According to the complaint, Manna Roy engaged a bulldozer to change the nature of the land, which has traditionally been used by villagers as a thoroughfare to fetch water and for cattle grazing. The local Panchayat had also planned to construct a brick-laid public road over the khas land as per long-standing public demand.

The villagers alleged that when they objected, Roy and his associates threatened them with dire consequences. They further claimed that a makeshift tin and bamboo house has been erected overnight, with a signboard in the name of Kathiababa Trust School and a boundary gate demarcating the land.

The complainants also alleged that Roy is projecting himself as a local RSS leader with the blessings of top RSS leadership from Nagpur and Tripura, discouraging people from opposing his activities. They expressed fear of a possible law and order situation if immediate legal steps are not taken to protect the khas land.

Concerns have also been raised about the legality of the so-called trust school. Sources pointed out that private educational institutions are bound by multiple government norms, including ownership of legal land, fire safety measures, drinking water, sanitation facilities, and CCTV security, none of which are reportedly available in this case.

Citing Section 164 of the Tripura Land Revenue and Land Reforms (TLRLR) Act, the informed sources further alleged that the trust led by Manna Roy has already acquired over 150 kanis of land through purchase and other means, which exceeds the ceiling limits set for trusts. They demanded a thorough inquiry by the Revenue Department into this matter.

Despite the seriousness of the allegations, villagers claim that neither police nor administrative authorities have visited the spot so far. They appealed to the district administration and police to intervene urgently, investigate the matter, and prevent further illegal occupation of government khas land.
