In a dramatic turn of events at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi today, Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma stirred a political storm by declaring himself the “original landowner” of Agartala, Teliamura, and Kanchanpur. He vowed to secure justice for the tribal people of Tripura, insisting that mainstream parties—including Congress, CPI(M), and BJP—had failed to deliver.

“This is my commitment for my people, and I will now take this a step further. Silence is not surrender,” Debbarma asserted, drawing loud cheers from supporters at the so-called “Peaceful Demonstration.”

His controversial remark, “I am the owner of Teliamura, Kanchanpur, and Agartala.”

quickly went viral on social media, triggering heated debates across Tripura. Many peace-loving citizens condemned the statement, branding it “hate speech” and even “anti-national.”

The Delhi protest followed closely on the heels of Tipra Motha leader David Murasing’s symbolic march to Delhi two months ago, pressing for the long-standing demand of “Tipraland.” Speaking at today’s gathering, Murasing reiterated concerns over “illegal migration” and echoed Pradyot’s claim of ownership over key areas of Tripura.

Back in Agartala, Tipra Motha activists staged torch processions in solidarity, while Homchang demonstrations erupted in several villages, amplifying calls for indigenous rights. Though the Delhi rally was billed as a broader “Tiprasa” gathering with no party flags, chants of “Bobagra Long Live” filled the air, and senior Tipra Motha figures were present.

Political analysts suggest that Pradyot Kishore Debbarma’s renewed emphasis on “original ownership” of parts of Tripura could reshape the discourse on land, identity, and governance in the state. Observers warn that the widening reach of the Tiprasa movement beyond formal party lines may heighten political tensions in the days ahead.
