Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarman on Tuesday declared at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar that he is unafraid of central agencies and ready to go to jail, while demanding immediate implementation of the Tiprasa Accord.
“My silence does not mean fear. If the ED or CBI come after me, I will happily go to jail,” he told supporters at the rally, which marked the end of a 2,500-km foot march by activist David Murasingh from Tripura to Delhi. Debbarman said the march received widespread support, with even poor people contributing, adding that his party’s loyalty would remain with the people who funded his campaign.
Lashing out at the Centre for delaying the accord for 18 months, he drew parallels with former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s bold decision to establish the ADC in Tripura despite internal opposition. He urged the Union Home Minister to take a similar stand, accusing some leaders of misleading the Centre about the accord’s impact.
Debbarman also attacked the CPI(M) for allegedly seizing his family’s properties. Announcing plans for another village-to-village campaign, he called for unity under the banner of Thansa, promising it would remain non-partisan with only the national flag.
The rally saw participation from Tipra Motha MLAs, MDCs, and regional leaders including NPP’s James Sangma.
