CM calls for introduction of smart parking

Chief Minister Manik Saha has called for the introduction of hydraulic parking systems at key points in Agartala to ease traffic congestion ahead of the festive season.

Chairing a high-level review meeting at the Civil Secretariat on Saturday, the Chief Minister stressed the need for a smooth and modern traffic management system in the capital. He directed officials to work with greater responsibility before Durga Puja to ensure hassle-free movement across the city.

Dr. Saha instructed strict action against loading and unloading of goods during peak hours, long-duration roadside parking, and obstruction in narrow lanes. He also emphasised that traffic police must interact with citizens politely and explain rules, noting that cooperation can resolve many issues.

The Chief Minister reviewed progress under the Smart City project, the construction of concrete roadside drains, and proposals for double-lane flyovers. He asked departments to ensure that ongoing development works do not cause inconvenience to the public during the festive period.

Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Kanta Jangir briefed the meeting on the current situation, while Chief Secretary J. K. Sinha stressed the need for proper planning in both traffic management and infrastructure projects.

The meeting was attended by Director General of Police Anurag, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, PWD and Power Secretary Abhishek Singh, Tourism Secretary U. K. Chakma, CEO of Agartala Smart City Ltd. Dr. Shailesh Kumar Yadav, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, AMC CEO Dilip Kumar Chakma, PWD Chief Engineer Rajib Debbarma, and senior officers from police and other departments.
