Late MLA Surajit Datta’s 76th birth anniversary celebrated by family , fruits and sweets distributed among patients in GBP hospital

The 76th birth anniversary of late Congress-turned-BJP MLA Surajit Datta was celebrated by his family members today in his residence through a simple function. While those present on the occasion including Surajit’s newphew Abhishek Datta who is an incumbent corporator of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) recalled Surajit Datta’s contribution to the Ram Nagar assembly constituency in terms of development and also in the matter of giving jobs, his family members distributed fruits and sweets among patients in the regional cancer hospital close to GBP hospital , Agartala. The details of the programme was shared with the media by Surajit Datta’s nephew Corporator Abhishek D atta.
Surajit Datta had been a Congress MLA from Ram Nagar assembly constituency for five times consecutively between 1988 and 2008 . He had lost the election to CPI (M) candidate Ratan Das narrowly in the year 2013 but then won consecutively again in 2018 and 2023 as BJP s candidate. During his tenure as minister in 1988-1993 Surajit had done a lot for his constituency through development of infrastructure and by giving government jobs to hundreds of youths and had earned a lasting popularity for his pro-people role. He had long been ailing from kidney and other problems and despite being elected as MLA for the 7th time in 2023 Suajit gradually became restricted in his movement and finally breathed his last in November that year. He is still recalled with respect by the people of his Ram Nagar constituency.
