A new cyber fraud tactic is spreading through WhatsApp and email, where users are receiving links disguised as official notifications from the RTO Traffic Challan app. According to reports, once someone clicks on these links, their WhatsApp account gets compromised, their mobile phone is hacked, and in many cases, money is fraudulently withdrawn from their bank accounts.

The issue came to light after a youth named Sumit Debnath filed a complaint at Bishalgarh Police Station, stating that such fraudulent links were being circulated widely. The police have confirmed the complaint and warned people not to click on any suspicious link sent through WhatsApp or email, even if it appears to be from an official government source.

Cyber experts explained that hackers are using phishing techniques to trick users into giving access to their personal data, OTPs, and banking credentials. Once the device is hacked, attackers gain control over WhatsApp messages, emails, and financial information.

The Tripura police have urged the public to remain extremely cautious, verify the authenticity of any link related to challans or government services, and use only official government apps or websites for such purposes. An appeal has also been made to immediately report such fraudulent messages to the nearest police station or Tripura’s cybercrime helpline.

Authorities emphasized: Do not click on any unknown link. One single click can cost you your personal data and hard-earned money.
