Hundreds of aspiring Assistant Professor candidates in Tripura are under growing tension as the recruitment process for faculty posts in Government (General) Degree Colleges continues to face unexplained delays. The Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC), the selection authority, had earlier issued Advertisement No. 05/2025 inviting online applications from bonafide Indian citizens for 201 permanent Assistant Professor posts under the Education (Higher) Department, Government of Tripura.
The vacancies cover a wide range of subjects, with notable openings in Political Science (14 posts), Philosophy (14 posts), Mathematics (15 posts), Zoology (15 posts), and Sanskrit (13 posts). The recruitment also includes reservation for women and 16 posts earmarked for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), aiming to strengthen higher education faculty across the state.
However, despite the completion of the application stage, no interview schedule has yet been announced. Many candidates have expressed concern that other, later advertisements are already being processed while this particular recruitment drive remains stalled. The uncertainty is causing anxiety among applicants, many of whom have been preparing for months and are waiting for a clear timeline from TPSC.
According to sources within the commission, several complaints have been submitted by candidates under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, raising questions on different aspects of the recruitment process. The matter is reportedly under review by the concerned authorities. “The interview dates might be disclosed shortly,” a TPSC source informed, indicating that the issue is under the intervention of the appropriate officials.
Until an official announcement is made, candidates remain in suspense, their hopes for appointment hanging in the balance as they await clarity on one of the most significant academic recruitment drives in recent years in Tripura.
