Political tension escalated once again as Pratik Debbarma, son of former Deputy Chief Minister and presently Governor of Telengana, Jishnu Debbarma, landed in fresh controversy after being accused of involvement in a violent incident at the MLA Hostel in Agartala near State Secretariat.
TIPRA Motha MLA Philip Kumar Reang has lodged a written complaint at the NCC police station, alleging that Pratik Debbarma, along with three others, attacked him at the MLA Hostel. According to the complaint, Pratik and the others were present at the hostel on the invitation of BJP MLA Pramod Reang.
Earlier today, several TIPRA Motha legislators, including Ranjit Debbarma and Minister Bishketo Debbarma, met Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha at the Secretariat, voicing concerns over threats to their lives. Following their meeting, Chief Minister instructed Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar to conduct a probe into the incident. The DGP later visited the MLA Hostel and interacted with MLAs Ranjit Debbarma and Philip Kumar Reang regarding the matter.
On Tuesday, Philip Kumar Reang filed an FIR naming four individuals, including Pratik Debbarma, at NCC police station. Speaking to the media afterwards, the Kanchanpur-Dasda MLA claimed that Pratik Debbarma and his associates, under the influence of alcohol, had threatened to kill him on Monday night. Police confirmed that an investigation has been initiated into the allegations.
The incident has triggered sharp political debates across the state, with opposition parties accusing the ruling camp of fostering lawlessness inside highly secured premises like the MLA Hostel.
