In a bizarre and contrived show of concern for public interest the BJP MLA of Teliamura and the party’s chief whip in the assembly Kalyani Roy Saha yesterday threatened to self-immolate herself unless the reconstruction of the road between Ampi Chowmuhuni and Gamaibari was completed within a reasonable time. It was with a good deal of persuasion that the NHIDCL authority convinced the MLA that the work would be completed soon.
The chief whip Kalyani Roy Saha made a social media post today saying that the NHIDCL executive director Adil Singh and general manager Himangshu Gupta this morning met her in her chamber in the assembly . There was a cordial discussion , according to the post, and Kalyani Roy Saha expressed the hope that the problem pertaining to the under-construction road will be resolved soon.
Sources from Teliamura said that the NHIDCL authority and its sub-contracted firm Bavia construction have been engaged in reconstruction of the Teliamura Amarpur road via Ampi and Teliamura-Khowai road over the past more than one year. It is because of the movement of more than twenty stone chips carrying truck daily on the Teliamura-Ampi section of the road , specially the small 1.7 kms stretch between Teliamura hospital and Gamaibari have been in a pitiable condition , full of mud , slush and potholes. As a result the patients including pregnant women who have to come to Teliamura hospital have to face serious trouble and hardship . “Actually 25-30 dumper trucks move on the road daily to download stone chips and the condition of the road has gone from bad to worse; the people suffer from this” said sources.
More than a month ago MLA Kalyani Roy Saha had visited the spot and spoken to the local manager of the sub-contracted firm Bavia construction for early completion of the work and urgent repairing of the stretch between Teliamura hospital and Gamaibari. She also held a number of meetings with the PWD officials and Bavia construction firm authority. But this did not have much of an effect and yesterday she revisited the spot and made the personnel of the Bavia company travel on a Tom Tom on the worst-affected stretch of the road between Teliamura hospital and Gamaibari to make them realize the suffering of the people. Finally the meeting was held in her assembly chamber this morning. Sources however said that , apart from the problems being faced by people, the MLA Kalyani Roy Saha may have certain ‘extraneous interests’ also in her mind that made her act in the manner she did but the problem is real .
