During the past two decades the Congress leaders including the topmost Mother-Son duo have specialized in personally hurling invectives at prime minister Narendra Modi-already the PM has been targeted with as many as 97 choices epithets. It had all begun in the run up to the election to the Gujrat assembly in 2007 when none other than Sonia Gandhi had abused the prime minister as ‘Maut ke Saudagar’, following this up in 2012 election campaign when she charged Modi with doing ‘Jawhar ke Ksheti’. But this repulsive personal attack gained in momentum once Narendra Modi became the prime minister in 2014 to the stunned disbelief of the Congress. So-called leaders of the party from Rahul Gandhi down to sundry power brokers kept abusing the prime minister and even his mother : now forgotten Congress leader Raj Babbar had once compared the falling value of India rupee vis-à-vis dollar to the age of prime minister non-agenarian mother . But this continues even today as a Congress man abused the prime minister in the vilest possible language in Bihar on August 29 , evoking sharp reactions from political leaders including the Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar.
Expectedly the BJP has come out with protest against the issues across the country, engaging even in clashes in certain places including Patna. But at Agartala today the state BJP took out a procession to protest the abuse of the prime minister and his mother . The participants in the procession-mostly the women leaders of the party including MLAs Antara Debsarkar (Kamala Sagar), Meena Rani Sarkar (Badharght), minister Santana Chakma, party leader Papiya Datta and AMC Corporator Ratna Datta-led the procession and reached the Congress Bhawan. There was heavy police arrangement in front of the Congress Bhawan and the male participants in the procession could not make any mischief because of resistance by police.
The procession that had come from near the MTV Girls HS school stopped for a while and then the leaders addressed the participants , condemning the personal vilification of the prime minister and his late mother and calling for arrest of Congress leaders. Howeverm there was no untoward incident and the procession dispersed later quietly.
