The chief minister Dr Manik Saha has distributed altogether 45 letters of appointment among specialist doctors upon recent recommendations made by the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC) in a programme held in the Hall No-1 of the government run Prajna Bhawan auditorium. The programme was attended by the secretary of health services Kiran Gitte and director National Health Mission (NHM) Saju Waheed.
Addressing the programme the chief minister said that the government was ready to recruit 170 specialist doctors but only 45 were available and recommended by the TPSC. “In order to tide over the shortage we will yet again launch a recruitment drive to fill up all vacancies but the 45 recruited now will be able to partially make up the shortfall of specialist doctors” said Dr Saha. He asserted that the state government is working on a plan to introduce super-speciality courses in the medical college here as also to introduce the Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) course. Dr Saha also indirectly sought to justify the recruitment of a doctor who had scored just 14 marks in the TPSC interview , saying that a doctor first has to clear the all India NEET and then NEET PG to secure a chance for master degree course and then qualify as a specialist doctor by obtaining at least 50% marks and this qualification can not be discounted and his or her knowledge and skill underestimated. He expressed the hope that the newly appointed specialist doctors will render dedicated service to the people.
The chief minister also attended a separate programme in the Rabindra Shata Varshiki Bhawan where 228 students who had performed well in the Madhyamik and HS (+2) examinations of the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) this year were felicitated. All the good performers were given awards under the ‘Chief Ministers Annual Award for Academic Excellence’. The top five among the students in Madhyamik and HS (+2) each were given cash rewards while others were given certificates of excellence. This programme was attended by director of secondary education N.C.Sharma, special secretary Raval Hemendra Kumar , director of SCERT L.Darlong and other officials.
