The organised and religiously motivated assault on Hindu school teachers and forcing them to tender resignations have been continuing in different parts of Bangladesh. In the aftermath of the mob uprising in the country in August last year 49 Hindu teachers including women were forced to resign on pain of assault and death till December last year but this has been continuing on a low key even now. In the latest such outrage on August 21 last the Hindu headmaster of Haidgaon high school under Patiya subdistrict in Chittagong division Shyamal Kanti De (55) was dragged down from an autorickshaw and assaulted by a gang of Muslim miscreants on his way to school in broad daylight. Shyamal Kanti De who suffered serious injuries on his left eye was admitted to a private clinic in Chittagong but the condition of his injured eye continues to be critical . The Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) of which Shyamal Kanti De is a member has condemned the attack and held the inaction of police and the government towards such crimes responsible for this since August last year.

Meanwhile, amidst the new-found bonhomie between the illegitimate interim government of Bangladesh and the toxic Pakistani regime , reflected in the signing of five accords during the visit of Pakistani prime minister Ishaq Daar, a Pakistani portal ‘The Catchline’ has uploaded an article raising the demand for efforts to bring back East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) into the Islammic fold of Pakistan. The article has condemned the emergence of Bangladesh in 1971, describing it as the result of a conspiracy hatched by ‘Bangabandhu’ Sheikh Mujibur Rahaman and the then Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi. It also termed Sheikh Mujeev as a ‘seditionist’ and Bangladesh as a ‘satellite state of India.

The uploading of this article for public view has sparked strong reaction among a large section of people in Bangladesh who termed it as a reflection of ‘medieval Pakistani thinking’ and its colonial designs. Speaking on condition of anonymity from Bangladesh a former leader of Awami League

and public representative said that the incumbent interim regime should ponder over the issue and decide how far they should go to appease Pakistan only in order to spite India . “A country that can not feed its own people and moves through world capitals with begging bowls is now trying again to colonise Bangladesh ; the people in this country as well as the usurper rulers should think about consequences of their misguided efforts” said the former Awami League leader.
