BJP Accuses Opposition of Obstructing Parliament, Wasting Monsoon Session

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has sharply criticised opposition parties for paralysing Parliament during the Monsoon Session, alleging that they disrupted proceedings for political mileage at the cost of legislative business.
Tripura BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee, addressing the media in Agartala, said the session was largely unproductive due to repeated walkouts and protests. “Out of 120 scheduled hours, the Lok Sabha functioned for only 37 hours and the Rajya Sabha for just 41 hours. Even when the Union Home Minister was addressing the House, the opposition chose to walk out,” he said.
Bhattacharjee dismissed opposition demands for a debate on the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, clarifying that the exercise falls under the jurisdiction of the Election Commission. “It is a routine mechanism to clean up electoral rolls. No genuine voter will be excluded. The opposition is deliberately spreading confusion,” he alleged.
He further expressed concern that crucial issues such as online gaming regulation and key Bills listed for passage could not be debated due to the logjam.
Targeting the Congress and CPI(M), Bhattacharjee accused them of a history of corruption, nepotism, and policy failures. “They have lost the moral authority to question us,” he said, while reiterating that the BJP would continue to prioritise issues concerning Tripura and the nation.
The Monsoon Session’s repeated disruptions have drawn sharp criticism from the ruling party, which maintains that legislative productivity was sacrificed to opposition theatrics.
