The Tripura Pradesh Congress has strongly condemned the alleged harassment faced by state’s SSC GD job aspirants during their participation in a paramilitary recruitment rally held in Mizoram.
Addressing the media on Sunday, Pradesh Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty said that neither the Union Home Ministry nor the state government can evade responsibility for the ordeal of Tripura’s youths. He alleged that thousands of candidates from the state, including both men and women, have been subjected to discrimination and severe inconvenience while appearing for the recruitment process outside Tripura.
The Congress has demanded that the physical fitness test for female candidates be immediately shifted from Mizoram to Agartala through a fresh notification. The party also urged the government to arrange for the safe return of all male candidates who have fallen ill or sustained injuries in Mizoram, ensuring their travel expenses and medical treatment are borne by the state. Additionally, the party pressed for another opportunity for these candidates to undergo the physical tests.
Highlighting the worsening job crisis, Chakraborty said, “In the last seven and a half years under the Modi regime, unemployment has risen sharply across the nation, including Tripura. Job opportunities are almost non-existent, yet the government is toying with the future of unemployed youths.”
He pointed out that paramilitary recruitment rallies are traditionally held in every state through SSC examinations followed by physical and medical fitness tests. However, for reasons “mysteriously unexplained,” Tripura has been excluded this time, forcing candidates to travel to Mizoram under harsh conditions.
Blaming the state government for its “utter negligence,” Chakraborty said that the government must immediately approach the Union Home Ministry for intervention and ensure protection of the interests of the state’s unemployed youth. “Such incidents cannot be accepted in any manner. The state must act swiftly to safeguard the future of helpless job seekers,” he said.
The Congress further asserted that the government should put pressure on the Union Home Ministry without delay to ensure justice for the youths of Tripura.
