7 Years of BJP in Tripura: Gazetted Officers Sangh Slams Tripura Govt Over Unfulfilled Promises, Submits Six-Point Charter of Demands

When the BJP came to power in Tripura in 2018, the then BJP Chief minister had assured that no officer, employee, or citizen would ever need to take to the streets or agitate for their legitimate demands. The former Chief Minister declared that all necessary steps for the welfare of its employees and officers would be taken promptly and responsibly.

However, seven years later, those promises remain largely unfulfilled. What makes the situation more striking is that the criticism is now coming not from opposition groups but from within the Gazetted Officers’ Sangh (GOS), a state-recognized service association of government officers, many of whom are BJP-affiliated.

On 22 August 2025, the GOS submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Finance Minister, and Chief Secretary, placing before them a six-point charter of demands. The organization, which works in the interest of public welfare, effective implementation of government projects, and the rights of officers and employees, has expressed deep concern over long-standing issues that remain unaddressed.

The six major demands raised in the memorandum are:

Declaration of ad-hoc promotions as regular promotions, along with pension benefits for ad-hoc promotees.

Immediate formation of the 8th Pay Commission to ensure enhanced benefits for officers, teachers, employees, and pensioners.

Release of pending 22 installments of Dearness Allowance (DA) and Relief at par with central government employees.

Provision of full pension benefits for all state employees after 20 years of continuous service, instead of the existing 25 years, keeping in view the maximum entry age of 40 years in government service.

Immediate filling up of vacant posts in different departments to meet the demands of unemployed youths and ensure smooth implementation of government policies.

Regularization of DRW/Group-D and other casual, contingent, PTW employees, including withdrawal of the controversial FD memo dated 31 July 2018, which hindered their regularization.

At a press conference held at Krishnanagar, GOS General Secretary Debashis Roy reiterated these demands and highlighted the contribution of the association since 2016 in promoting welfare of officers, teachers, employees, and even the unorganized sector. He emphasized that over 1,500 members, including TCS officers, doctors, engineers, headmasters, and other gazetted officers, are part of the GOS.

Roy acknowledged the decision of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha to release 29 installments of DA and DR in the past 29 months, calling it praiseworthy. However, he warned that unless other pressing demands are addressed, the discontent among officers and employees will continue to grow.

The memorandum also underlined that officers and employees are committed to ensuring that government schemes reach the last person of society, in line with the State Government’s vision of Ek Tripura, Shreshtha Tripura and building a developed Tripura by 2047.
