The much-anticipated final match of the Operation Sindur Cup, organized by Bishalgarh Football Fanclub, ended abruptly and remained incomplete today following a dispute over emerging footballer Parvez Bhuiya’s eligibility to play.
A few months ago, the Tripura Football Association (TFA) suspended Parvez Bhuiya without prior notice. However, just last week, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) overturned the suspension order through its Player Status Committee, directing that the player be allowed to resume playing. Despite the AIFF’s judgment, the TFA has yet to withdraw its suspension order, creating confusion and controversy.
The tension came to a head today at Bishalgarh Ghoniyamara Ground, when Parvez was denied the chance to play on behalf of the Motinagar Football team in the Sindur Football League final. Local MLA Sushanta Deb, who was present at the ground along with several thousand spectators, made repeated efforts to resolve the matter. But due to internal resistance within a faction of the organisers, the match could not take place. The incident drew widespread criticism from spectators, many of whom condemned the TFA’s role in the fiasco.
Allegations have surfaced that a self-styled leader within the TFA, claiming political clout under the BJP’s name, has been working against footballers interests to serve his own agenda. It was under his influence that Parvez Bhuiya, Tripura’s only player to have featured in both the Durand Cup and I-League, was suspended months earlier without due process.
The AIFF, after extensive hearings, annulled this suspension on August 18 and issued an order allowing Parvez to play immediately. Within 30 minutes of the judgment, Blood Mouth Club submitted an application to the AIFF for Parvez’s CRS transfer. The AIFF swiftly communicated to the TFA and the concerned club to grant approval.
However, even after seven days, no approval was given. On August 19 at 2:00 PM, Blood Mouth Club submitted a written request to the concerned club, followed by another to the TFA at 2:30 PM. When no response came, a letter was also sent to the AIFF at 3:00 PM.
Despite the urgency, Parvez was still not cleared to play in today’s final, directly violating the AIFF’s ruling. The matter has sparked outrage among football lovers in Tripura, who see this as an example of unwanted politics entering the football field.
The situation has left the Operation Sindur Cup final incomplete, disappointing thousands of football fans and raising questions about the transparency and integrity of the Tripura Football Association.
