Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today announced that government officers will not be allowed to take leave during the upcoming Durga Puja days unless it is absolutely urgent. He stressed that all departments must remain fully functional to ensure smooth arrangements for the festivities.

The Chief Minister made the statement while addressing a preparatory meeting at the Muktadhara Auditorium, convened by the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, in connection with the upcoming Mayer Gomon and Sharad Samman program.

Dr. Saha informed that this year’s Mayer Gomon will be held on October 4, 2025, and appealed to everyone to work together to make the event a grand success, which he said would help boost tourism in the state.

Reflecting on last year’s experience, the Chief Minister said:

“We must find out the gaps and fill them. From many corners idols come and due to numbering, some problems arose. I want to ask the police administration to maintain coordination with the clubs and properly arrange this system. Police must also manage road crossings and ensure smooth control of the situation.”

On infrastructure preparedness, Dr. Saha noted that the government is working to complete ongoing drainage works before the festival. He has also directed the PWD to repair potholes on roads at the earliest.

Highlighting safety and compliance, the Chief Minister said:

Idol heights, decorations, and lighting gates must follow prescribed rules.

TSECL must strictly check that clubs use proper electric meters and avoid hook lines to prevent accidents.

Fire and Emergency Services must remain alert, while the Health Department has been asked to keep ambulances and health experts on standby at strategic locations.

Women police personnel will be deployed during Mayer Gomon for additional security.

Clubs have been asked to control sound pollution and avoid loud noises, especially near hospitals.

On the sensitive issue of subscription (chanda) collection, Dr. Saha gave a stern warning against any forceful practices. “I have instructed the police and administration to prevent any forceful collection of chanda. However, the situation has improved now, and people are more cordial,” he said.

The Chief Minister also expressed his vision for wider recognition: “I want the whole nation to know about Tripura’s Mayer Gomon.”

The meeting was attended by Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumdar, Health Department Secretary Kiran Gitte, ICA Department Secretary Pradip Kumar Chakraborty, ICA Director Bimbisar Bhattacharya, and senior officials of various line departments.
