Tipra Motha legislator Ranjit Debbarma has raised serious allegations of corruption in the recent police constable recruitment process, demanding immediate registration of criminal cases against a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), his assistants, and members of the recruitment board, including its chairman.
In a strongly worded representation addressed to the authorities, Debbarma alleged that one Anamika Debbarma, daughter of Sri Kajal Sinha of Fultali under Kailasahar Sub-Division, Unakoti District, was wrongly selected as a women constable in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category by using a fake and fabricated ST certificate.
According to Debbarma, Anamika’s father belongs to the Manipuri community, which falls under the Unreserved category, while her mother belongs to the Debbarma (Tripuri) tribe. Citing settled legal precedent, the MLA stated that caste or tribe status is determined by the father’s lineage, not the mother’s. He argued that the ST certificate issued in her name was fraudulent and must be investigated thoroughly.
Debbarma further claimed that the concerned SDM and his dealing assistants knowingly issued the ST certificate based on fabricated documents, making them liable for criminal prosecution if the certificate is proven fake. Conversely, if the certificate is deemed genuine, those responsible for preparing the forged supporting documents and issuing it must face action.
The MLA expressed shock over the role of the Recruitment Board Chairman, Jayanta Chakraborty, IPS, Principal of KTDS Police Academy, Narsingarh, and his associates, who signed off on what he termed a suspicious and defective merit list. He pointed out that Anamika was placed at Serial No. 124 (Roll No. 10049) with 61 marks out of 100, recommended against the Unreserved vacancy, despite being selected under ST criteria.
Debbarma also alleged that several other candidates have raised corruption complaints regarding the merit list and urged a full review to unearth further irregularities and financial malpractice.
He demanded the following actions be taken immediately:
Registration of a specific criminal case against Anamika Debbarma for using a fake ST certificate.
Criminal cases against the SDM and his assistants for issuing the certificate based on fabricated documents.
Legal action against the Recruitment Board Chairman and members for approving a tainted merit list.
A thorough review of the merit list to identify other fraudulent selections.
Cancellation of services of all defaulting constables (male and female) to restore public faith.
Debbarma also reminded that he had earlier written to the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) and other constitutional authorities, demanding cancellation of all ST benefits for tribal girls who marry non-ST men, arguing that such marriages are being exploited to wrongfully claim reservations and benefits.
Calling the incident a serious breach of trust in one of the most prestigious and sensitive departments of the state, the Tipra Motha leader urged the Tripura Government to act swiftly to uphold transparency and justice in the recruitment process.
