In a significant move by the Ministry of Education, the Vice-Chancellors of the Central University of Andhra Pradesh and the Central University of Punjab have been granted one year extensions, while Prof. Ganga Prasad Prasain, Vice-Chancellor of Tripura University, has been denied an extension. The decision comes in the backdrop of widespread allegations of corruption, maladministration, and financial irregularities against him.

Official communications from the Ministry of Education, signed by Under Secretary Rajesh Kumar, confirm that Prof. S.A. Kori (Central University of Andhra Pradesh) and Prof. (Dr.) Raghavendra Prasad Tiwari (Central University of Punjab) have been issued formal extension orders. However, no such order was issued for Tripura University, effectively ending Prof. Prasain’s tenure without renewal marking a major setback in his academic career.

The denial of extension has been widely welcomed by the faculty, staff, and student community of Tripura University, who have long accused Prof. Prasain of corruption, favoritism, and misuse of university resources. University insiders described his removal as a much-needed cleansing step to restore credibility and transparency in Tripura University’s administration.

According to sources, the Ministry of Education makes interim arrangements until a new Vice-Chancellor is appointed through the regular selection process.

For the academic fraternity in Tripura, the decision has reinforced the principle that corruption and abuse of power cannot be shielded, even at the highest levels of Central Universities. It is firmly believed across campus circles that this move is nothing short of a cleansing step for Tripura University.
