Hip Replacement Surgery Successfully Performed at Khowai District Hospital

In a major boost to district-level healthcare, doctors at Khowai District Hospital have successfully performed a hip replacement surgery, the first of its kind at the facility.

The patient, 65-year-old Kajal Debnath of Kalyanpur, had suffered a fracture in her right hip following an accident last month. After examination, orthopaedic specialist Dr. Anam Debbarma advised immediate hip replacement.

The surgery, which is usually carried out in private or advanced hospitals, was conducted free of cost under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY). The operation was performed on August 18 by Dr. Debbarma, assisted by anaesthesiologist Dr. Biswajit Debbarma and a team of hospital staff.

Officials confirmed that the procedure lasted nearly an hour and the patient is now recovering well.

The success has been hailed as a milestone for Khowai District Hospital, highlighting the state government’s efforts to strengthen healthcare services in rural and semi-urban areas. The patient’s family expressed gratitude to the medical team for ensuring such advanced treatment was available locally without financial burden.
