Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha Unveils statue of Maharaja Bir bikram Kishore Manikya on the Premises of Bir Bikram Memorial College

The Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha unveiled a 9 ft tall statue of Maharaja Bir bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur on the Premises of Bir Bikram Memorial College on August 19, at 4 pm. Along with Chief Minister Prof. Saha, the sublime moment of unveiling of the statue was graced by the presence of Minister of Higher Education Sri Kishore Barman, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Sri Rajib Bhattacharjee, Vice-Chancellor, MBB University Dr. Bibhas Deb, Director of Higher Education Sri Animesh Debbarma and other dignitaries.

The statue unveiling event was the central attraction of the “Five-Day Long Golden Jubilee Celebration” programme (18-22 August, 2025) proudly hosted by stakeholders of Bir Bikram Memorial College (Erstwhile B.B. Evening College).

Following the path of visionary legacy of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya the present Bir Bikram Memorial College began its journey as Bir Bikram Evening College, operating under Calcutta University’s affiliation On 19 August 1969. On 26 December 2002, the college moved to College Tilla, occupying the building of the former Tripura University. It was then renamed Bir Bikram Memorial College, transitioning into a co-educational day college committed to serve the needs of the larger community.

With enduring spirit of pride and a deep sense of belongingness, the various stakeholders like students, (both present and alumnus), teachers, (both current and the esteemed retired professors), non-teaching staff, patrons, local guardians and innumerable well wishers witnessed the historical moment as the colossal statue of Maharaja Bir Bikram was unveiled.

The unveiling ceremony was followed by a brief programme at the beginning of which Dr Rupak Saha, the convener of the Golden Jubilee and Statue Installation Committee, gave a humble and hearty welcome to the dignitaries and the audiences. Dr. Das also briefly described this moment as a candid tribute which was necessary for marking the achievement of a distinct identity by this institution and for the rejuvenation of aspirations.



Amidst the continuous and overflowing streams of emotions of nostalgia, and excitements the audience listened to the speakers all of whom unequivocally lauded the initiative and arrangements of the Golden Jubilee Celebration programme. Besides the history of glorious journey of this College, students of present generation also require to acquire some special skills for jobs, said Mr. Animesh Debbarma, Director, Higher Education, Govt. of Tripura.
